Their music is free and mystical,

… esoteric and eclectic, jazzy, folksy and Afro-Latin, Reggae and Rock. They take songs that people like and they shake ‘em up: syncopate rhythms, add in 4 part harmonies, speed-em up or slow-em down, creating fresh patterns and approaches. Often they put songs together with similar sounding songs, blending medleys that show the influences of each part – very unique!

And yes, they play a number of originals, which they also shake-up from time to time — rearrange ‘em in new ways…just for fun.

The instrumentation is also unique:

‘Himself, the Nuclear Pagan’ plays 8-12 string upright bass.

Roger Davis plays a hybrid drum kit, built from the bass drum, chimes and hi-hat from his acoustic kit, blended together with the digital sounds of a Sonic drum pad: very hi-tech.

Rich “Santa” Dwyer plays a mean harmonica, a whole case of them matter of fact. He also provides percussion.

Christina Bjorling plays percussion and electric piano.

Steve O’Neil plays acoustic and electric guitars, and plays them through multiple effects pedals. He’s also a percussionist.

The vocals is solid: ‘Himself, the Nuclear Pagan’, Rich, Steve and Christina all sing lead when called on. When not singing lead, they can harmonize beautifully together.

The result is Free Range Mystiks – a new and, without a doubt, original sound. Home grown in Southeastern Tennessee in 2009, blended with influences, trends and periods from the last 40 years, from all over the world. Their music is ever evolving and exploratory.
